One of my favorite stores has gone stateside! I’m so excited! Now we can shop in dollars and use our sizing system. I just wanted to share some of my favorite outfits at TopShop right now, since they are every changing.
Of course I’m going to start with dresses, as I love dresses from the UK. Kate Moss has a superb collection. My favorite is this halter dress with embroidery.

As an amateur makeup artist with 13 years of experience in giving makeovers, I consider myself a makeover minimalist. When I give makeovers my goal isn’t to highlight the makeup and hide the person, but to accentuate a person’s features and cover flaws, while giving minimal attention to the actual makeup. If I had perfect skin I’d probably just curl my lashes and put on some blush and lip gloss.
This comes from having two brothers who have always had the opinion that makeup shouldn’t really be all that noticeable. Men like to see the person, not the makeup. Or, as one brother says, “If she looks amazing with all that makeup and it’s pretty obvious that she’s wearing it, you start to wonder what she’s hiding. You have this fear… what does she look like without all of that?” Or to put it in perspective the guy’s thinking long term. If he were married to you, what would you look like first thing in the morning?
So Victoria’s Secret isn’t quite known for dresses, much less ‘modest dressing,’ but actually there are a few dresses worth trying out. With Fall just around the corner, deep colors like this deep purple, in a modest, below the knee length, makes this jersey dress a comfortable winner for fall:
Leopard Print Court Shoe in the style of Gwen Stefani
It is terribly difficult to pull off wearing leopard prints. Fortunately, accessories make it easy to add a punch to any outfit. I love these leopard heels that would look wonderful with an easy, black dress. Every woman needs to own a perfect fallback black dress that is a no-fail every time. Here’s one I like with some center detailing:
1950s Paisley Dress with Shrug Jacket
This vintage dress would look lovely worn outdoors in spring. The paisley is elegant and feminine, and the shrug balances out the prints. (Item is no longer available but site offers other great vintage pieces)

She looks like she could be your 20-something son’s hot girlfriend, but actually she’s probably a peer. You might remember her in 2005’s movie, Memoirs of a Geisha, as the evil but beautiful Hatsumomo. She was also the love interest of Colin Farrell in Miami Vice. She was born on December 31, 1965, making her actually 42 years old! What are the beauty secrets of this beautiful Chinese celebrity?
According to the online fansite, admiringgongli.com, Gong admits to sometimes sleeping more than 10 hours a night. The interviewer also spotted some Lancome creams on her vanity table. Other than that, her secrets to a youthful glow remain a mystery.

This shirt dress makes me think of Sunday brunch with friends in springtime, in someone’s backyard, underneath sprawling vines in a trellis, surrounded by greens and inviting flowers from the garden. What a picture!
1. Shiny clothes should come with a “danger” label …
… but dark colored shine is usually okay. When you wear light-colored shiny clothes, you exaggerate that part of your body. It’s very hard to pull off shiny light clothes, but some manage! (Glamour May 2005)
