Ive had readers ask me about sunglasses, and I’m kind of obsessed. Not only are they great for protecting your eyes from the sun, they are the easiest way to feel instantly more glamorous, more put together, or more mysterious. Right now I’m particularly loving three kinds of sunglasses. There are shades perfect for a casual day look, shades perfect to transition from day to evening, and shades perfect for when you want to feel a bit edgy.
For a casual look…
I love wearing aviators with anything casual. Whether it’s with a baseball cap and a baseball tee at game, or thrown on with a fedora and my favorite sundress, aviators bring you instantly back to summertime, even in the dead of winter. It is characteristic of that “I’m not trying hard” look. Aviators look great on most face shapes, especially people with round or heart shaped faces.
Aviators are also just classic. As much as I love my gold aviators, right now, to play up a classic with a modern twist, I’m really digging rose gold! These rose gold aviators from Oakley would be perfect with all the rose gold jewelry pieces popping up everywhere.
Aviators come in different frames. Although it’s a matter of personal preference, I prefer the gold and rose gold variations as opposed to the silver. The gold and rose gold frames warm up the face. Avoid the “mirrored” look if you want to avoid looking like a police officer. My favorites are non mirrored, gradient versions.
For a more formal look…
I love any variation of tortoise shell glasses. They can go from day to night really easily. You can wear them with office wear as easily as you can wear them with a little black dress for an evening soiree.
I’m especially loving this “Tokyo Tortoise” version from Maui Jim Pau Hana . The tortoise print is really bold, and the slight cat eye is really trending right now.
And for an edgy but classic look…
Classic wayfarer shades are the way to go. And nothing is more classic than the original Ray Ban wayfarer.
My brother sure knows how to rock these shades:
And right now on my wish list? Anything with just a hint of a cat eye. This pair below from Guess is awesome. I love the slight nod to a cat eye without being overtly retro. It’s almost like a combination of Jacki O sunglasses and cat eye sunglasses. Plus, the little studs make this pair a little more rocker chic.
