Dark Brown Eyes + Blue Eye Makeup

This bold blue eye makeup looks great with an equally bold cat eye.

Why brown eyes look great with blue eye makeup

Brown eyes actually look really great with blue eye makeup because brown eyes have gold/yellow/orange in them and the opposite color on the color wheel is blue. The opposite color on the color wheel is the most complimentary color.

I talk more about color theory here if you’re interested in seeing what colors look best on you based on your skin tone.

The bolder the eye look, the bolder you can go with your brows.

What to do with the rest of your makeup when you’re wearing a bold eye look

Brows go bolder.

Mascara goes thicker (or wear fake lashes).

Cat eye goes thicker and longer (if you want).

Cheeks and lips go more subtle. Think nudes and soft pinks.

If you’re going to go bold, make sure you have a clean diagonal line extending from the end of your eye.

The importance of a clean diagonal line

One of the most important things to keep in mind when you’re doing a bold eye look is to make sure you have a clean diagonal line if you have eye makeup extending past where your eye ends. One way to accomplish this is to use a concealer at the end of the look to clean it all up.

Blue eye makeup also looks good with shimmer- a white or silver shimmer to keep it in the cool tone family

what to do if you have small eyes

If you have small eyes or you want your eyes to appear larger, you can take a white liner and line the inside of your water line– the area that actually touches your eye. You can see my waterline lined in white in the above picture.

Where you can get items similar to what I’m using

My absolute favorite black liquid liner. With a calligraphy tip thanks to the genius tattoo artist Kat Von D.

Being a former makeup artist, I’ve tried soooo many mascaras. I always go back to Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. If you like lots of volume and love to pile it on like me, you will love this mascara. (Not the best if you want piece-y, natural lashes and more individual definition)

Don’t forget the lid primer so your eye makeup goes on smoothly, blends effortlessly, stays vivid in color, and lasts all day. The Urban Decay one is an industry favorite. ¬†Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between any of upscale makeup brand’s lid primers.

Mac and Urban Decay have great blue eye shadows. Vivid and pigmented.

Or if you want a duo that also has some silvery shimmer, this Nars duo is lovely.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed and just want to use a blue chubby stick? This works too. Just make sure to blend the edges.

And for small eyes, don’t forget the white liner in your water line.

This is the easiest way I’ve found to do a cat eye.¬†

Another blue eye makeup look I’ve done but with a more turquoise color.¬†
