Finally, a subject I know through personal experience! I like my pert derriere. Thank you J. Lo for bringing the booty back in vogue! Celebrate and showcase your round tush in these styles.
1. The pencil skirt with back details
Remember that scene in Some Like It Hot when Marilyn Monroe goes to the train station? She’s infamous for wearing those pencil skirts showing off her behind. If you haven’t seen it before, here’s a clip. The part I’m talking about starts at 5:00.
The boys are hilarious! Jerry goes, “Will you look at that! Look how she moves! It’s like Jell-O on springs. Must have some sort of built-in motor or something. I tell you, it’s a whole different sex! “Marilyn’s skirt in that clip has detailing on the bottom. Some sort of fringe. A pencil skirt can work wonders on a tush! It curves around a woman’s hips, down to the knees, accentuating the your curve of the tush. Add some details on the back and you’ll add a point of interest. This one from Victoria’s Secret has a cute bow on the back. Check it out:
Although it’s hard to find, I also like pencil skirts with a shoelace type back. I met lovely designer Ashley Moncrief last year and she designs beautiful knitwear pieces. She has excellent personal style that is feminine yet relaxed. She designed the skirt below. The added plus of wearing knit pieces besides warmth is comfort. Knit is snug but comfy. Check it out:
She sells the pattern for this skirt. I love the color for fall and the ruffles at the bottom!
Besides the pencil skirt with a bow, Victoria’s Secret also offers some other skirts with detailing. I love this tulip skirt even more than the first skirt! The black and white top is perfect for this skirt. Notice how the bottom of the skirt flares and the added tiny buttons give people more reason to be drawn to the backside:
2. Plaid bottoms
Anything plaid on your lower half will accentuate the butt. I used to own a pair of plaid bootcut pants from the 70’s that were given to me from a friend who wore them in the 70’s. They were my favorite pair of pants. I wore them all the time until the fabric in the inner thigh area wore out. Damn inner thighs! Anyhow, I never failed to get a compliment every time I wore them. I wish I had a picture!
Nowadays I’m seeing a lot of plaid knee length shorts on the market. I love love love them! They are perfect for summer. I love wearing them and pulling off the nerd look. I couldn’t find any pictures of models with butts wearing them, so I took a picture of myself in my favorite orange pair! Not the best picture, but you get the point:
Pair them off with a simple white wife-beater tank top (hate this slang term but you get which one I’m talking about), some flip flops and if you own a pair, some cute glasses!
A great way to try on some glasses is through this virtual makeover tool from Ivillage.com. The makeover-o-matic is free and lets you upload your own picture and try on popular eye glass shapes. I got carried away trying on different looks. This is what the page looks like. You can even save your “looks.” Here’s me with purple rimmed glasses and a short brown bob:
And a close up…Make sure to use a picture that has your hair out of your face, unlike mine, and you’ll avoid having your actual hair in the picture too. I actually have jet black hair. ( Or had jet black hair in the picture, I should say. Now I’m actually blonde. I’ll post on how to go from black hair to blonde hair and know you’ll look good in a future article.)
But I digress. Basically, my point in even mentioning the glasses is to show this:
FOXY NERD LOOK
3. A dress with back detailing
Just like the pencil skirt idea, but converted into an entire dress. This one’s my favorite. I think it’s no longer available to purchase:(
Alessandra Ambrosia wears it perfectly! It’s really easy to go from classy to trashy pulling this look off, so avoid shiny fabrics. Go for matte fabrics and light florals like this dress.
