Have you listened to this Ted talk? It’s gotten over 5 million views and counting, and I’m sure it’s because it’s resonating with a lot of women. It’s about how as girls we are taught to be perfect while boys are taught to be brave. This changes how we go about living our lives. It makes us focused on how we look physically and how we are perceived by others. It’s so toxic! I want every girl to listen to this. I think it will help them plod through life willing to make more mistakes, willing to just go after what they want with confidence.
I know I struggle with perfectionism, and I can be really hard on myself. I think the key to overcoming perfectionism, like having any bad habit, is to replace the goal of perfection with something else. And bravery seems like the best option. Have a listen to the Ted talk and share it with every girl or woman you know! We all need to hear that message that perfection isn’t the goal, bravery is.
